THUNDER BAY – The Firefighters Ten Mile Road Race will be virtual once again in 2022.
But organizers are hopefully they’ll be back on Simpson Street and Fort William Road with a full-fledged event in 2023.
The virtual race, which will take place between May 12 to May 24, will allow runners to select a 10-mile route of their choosing, confirming their result on line.
“There is no time limit to complete the Ten Mile distance so it opens the race up to allow participants of various fitness levels to take on the challenge either running or walking their chosen course. First time participants or returning running enthusiasts are encouraged to participate,” said race director Herb Daniher.
“There is an aura of excitement this Year as those registering and completing the ten-mile distance will receive a free registration for the Marquee Live May 22, 2023 Fire Fighters Ten Mile Road Race. There will also be a running bib available along with a certificate of completion for finishers.”
Daniher said the challenges of COVID-19 and the regulatory requirements associated with staging a race of this magnitude made it impossible to hold a true in-person event, traditionally the staple of the Victoria Day weekend.
Registration can be conducted online at www.10mileroadrace.org. There is a registration fee and the event is open to runners of all abilities.
The race was last held in 2019.
