Terrace Bay OPP respond to an allegedly armed resident

Police say no threat is posed to public safety at this time.

SCHREIBER – OPP are at the scene involving an individual believed to be armed inside a residence in Terrace Bay.

The police received the report of the allegedly armed individual barricading themself inside the residence at approximately 1:20 a.m. on Sunday.

Officers stated that they have cordoned off the immediate area and are currently working to resolve the situation peacefully. 

Under these efforts, the OPP has deployed its Emergency Response Team and Canine to support crisis negotiators working to bring the situation to a safe conclusion. 

Police said their main priority is to resolve the situation safely with minimal impact on the surrounding community.

While it is ongoing, the police explained there will be an increased police presence within Terrace Bay.

However, OPP said the situation poses no threat to public safety at this time for the residents.

Police ask the public to avoid the area.
