ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – Terry Fox is being honoured with a stamp marking Canada’s 150th birthday.
In 1980, the one-legged Fox began his Marathon of Hope in St. John’s, N.L, to raise money for cancer research.
His run fell short when doctors discovered his cancer had returned and he was forced to end his cross-country journey on Sept. 1, 1980, east of Thunder Bay.
His sister, Judith Fox, on Thursday unveiled the stamp in the Newfoundland and Labrador capital, just a few kilometres from the spot were Terry Fox's run began.
A total of 10 Canada 150 stamps will be released in 2017, each commemorating unforgettable moments in the past 50 years since the country celebrated its centennial in 1967.
The first five honour Expo 67, the Constitution and Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Canadarm and Canadian innovation, marriage equality and the Trans-Canada Highway.
