The 41st annual toy run brought out over 60 riders

"It's phenomenal because with the motorcycling community in Thunder Bay, the charity always been there," Gary Ferguson, executive director of the Journey to Life Centre said.

THUNDER BAY – On Saturday, motorcyclists from around the community got together to support Toys for Tots at the Salvation Army Journey to Life Centre.

Riders began at Thunder Bay Harley Davidson, packed their bikes with gifts for children in need, and rode to the Salvation Army Journey to Life Centre.

Gary Ferguson, executive director of the Journey to Life Centre, said it was a really exciting day.

“We've got a lot of people out here supporting it and a lot of toys, I would say there's well over 60 riders here this year.

"It's phenomenal because with the motorcycling community in Thunder Bay, the charity always been there and just even the generosity of the people in Thunder Bay as a whole, they're always in support of the Salvation Army. I can't say enough about the turnout and what we're seeing here for the kids will be."

Ferguson said the toys will be distributed throughout Christmas through a different variety of Salvation Army programs.

“We are only one organization that provide toys, there are other organizations that do it as well. We're happy to do our part.

“We really strive so that no children are without a toy at Christmas time. We want to contribute our part and we feel so good that we're able to help,” he said.

Sari Jamsa joined in on the ride on Saturday to support Toys for Tots.

“For me, it hits close to home. I have children and grandchildren. We're just here to support the kids, that's really what it's all about.

“I took part in this event last year. I plan on taking a part of it every year that I possibly can. Our community is just incredible when it comes to supporting things like this. I'm really proud to be a part of it,” she said.

Jamsa said the importance of Toys for Tots is growing.

“We have a lot of new immigrants to our city too. I think that’s an important piece too, because a lot of people who are displaced are finding their ground and to feel that welcome support from our community, I think it's just a blessing that we're able to do all this.”

Anybody who wants to support Toys for Tots can drop a toy off at the Salvation Army Journey to Life Centre, or visit their website for more information.
