THUNDER BAY — A third southern Ontario man charged in connection to a shooting incident on Ambrose Street earlier this year has been released on bail.

Jayden Bowen, 18, of Scarborough Ont. appeared via video before Justice of the Peace Tobey Meyer from the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre for a bail hearing on Tuesday.

Bowen is facing two charges of attempted murder from a shooting incident in January in Thunder Bay.

Meyer ordered Bowen released with a surety. The release order includes the conditions that he reside with his surety in Brampton, Ont., and remain on the property of the residence at all times, the only exception being while in the company of his surety.

Bowen is also not to have any contact or communication with the co-accused or victims and not possess any drugs or drug paraphernalia or weapons.

The charges date back to an alleged shooting on the 200 block of Ambrose Street the night of Jan. 17.

Police initially responded to reports of a shooting in the Ambrose Street area at approximately 10:30 p.m. When officers arrived, an injured female was located. A short time later, an injured male was located near the Gateway Casino.

Both victims suffered injuries consistent with gunshots and were transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for treatment. At the time, the woman’s injuries were described as critical.

Police said at the time that it was believed the incident was related to the illicit drug trade in the city.

Bowen was arrested on an Ontario Northland bus in Sault Ste. Marie by the Ontario Provincial Police and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Kayshawn Robertson, 18, of Scarborough, was also arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder, while 20-year-old Isaiah Broomfield of Toronto was charged with two counts of accessory after the fact.

The Thunder Bay Police Service indicated that at the time of the arrests, one of the suspects was armed with a loaded firearm and was wearing body armour, while another suspect threw a loaded firearm on the bus.

Broomfield was released on bail last month, while Robertson was denied bail and remains in custody.
