Thousands attend Country on the Bay festival

Organizers hope to make the annual festival a main attraction for the city

THUNDER BAY – Roughly 5,000 country music fans made their way out to Fort William Historical Park this weekend for the second annual Country on the Bay Music Festival.

The festival saw a number of country artists hitting the stage including James Barker Band, Tim Hicks, and Doc Walker.

The weather held out for the local festival goers, young and old, who were enjoying the food, drinks, and live music and Co-Promoter David Allen said this year's event ran a lot more smoothly than last year.

“We just changed some things, made the VIP lounge a little bit bigger, a little bit more friendlier with some TV's screens,” he said. “We're changing things to try to make it better next year, we'll do it again, we're going to make some more changes as it's just seeing what we can get and how we can make everything a little bit better for everybody.”

Among some of the changes planned for next year is the lineup according to Allen, who said that organizers will be looking for some bigger names to bring to the festival.

“We're going to look at doing it a little bit bigger next year and some bigger bands,” he said. “Not that we haven't had big bands, but we're going to try to bring some bigger ones in and make it a main attraction for the city for every year going forward.”
