THUNDER BAY — The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Thunder Bay district has increased to 17, two more than on Tuesday, and the highest total since Sept. 13, 2021.
The district health unit reported three new active cases on Wednesday morning, including two in First Nation communities and one in the Thunder Bay area.
One of the cases resulted from close contact with an infected person, while the other two have no known exposure source.
One previously diagnosed case in the district was resolved in the preceding 24 hours.
Only one of the 17 people currently confirmed to have the virus has required hospitalization.
The bulk of the district's active cases are in the Greenstone area, where Geraldton District Hospital on Wednesday reported 13 cases in Greenstone and surrounding First Nation communities, one more than it reported Tuesday.
