Thunder Bay 50/50 jackpot soars past $2 million, early bird prize winner revealed

THUNDER BAY – A Capreol, Ont. woman has claimed the $10,000 early bird prize as the Thunder Bay 50/50 draw crushed the $2-million mark on Wednesday.

Christina Best was announced as the winner of the final early bird prize, the largest yet in the 11-month history of the lottery in support of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation draw.

Capreol is located north of Sudbury.

The December jackpot, which is now larger than the four lowest previous jackpots combined, and more than double the previous record $965,715 awarded last February, is currently at $2,022,255 and climbing.

Ticket sales close at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, with the draw scheduled for 11 a.m. on Friday. They’re available to anyone in Ontario at the time of purchase at www.thunderbay5050.ca.
