THUNDER BAY — The summer wrapped up with record passenger traffic through Thunder Bay Airport.
The airport authority says that between Jan. 1 and Aug. 31, the terminal saw 588,076 people travel through.
That's 4.6 per cent more than last year over the same period.
In 2017, an all-time record 845,000 passengers used Thunder Bay Airport.
Higher traffic from northern communities have been a significant contributor to this year's increase, with Bearskin Airlines, North Star Air and Wasaya Airways all reporting stronger volumes.
The airport authority also points to the addition of a seventh weekday flight by Porter Airlines, along with added capacity into Winnipeg by WestJet Encore.
Passenger traffic is projected to stay robust through the end of the year.
