THUNDER BAY — The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority has terminated the flood warning it issued Monday evening for the City of Thunder Bay and surrounding areas.

The warning was due to a weather system that brought close to 70 mm of rain to some parts of the region.

In a news release Tuesday afternoon, the LRCA said high water levels on watercourses around the city and in Oliver Paipoonge, Shuniah, Dorion, Neebing, O'Connor, Conmee and Gillies were starting to recede, but were expected to remain elevated for some time.

In the city, water continues to be diverted to the Neebing-McIntyre Floodway.

The authority said it was still advising motorists to be cautious on roads impacted by flooding.

The City of Thunder Bay roads division said that as water levels recede, it will deploy crews to assess damage and begin repairs.

It said rural parts of McIntyre ward, in particular, have experienced some washouts.

The LRCA advised homeowners who obtain their drinking water from a private well to have their water tested prior to use.
