Thunder Bay Art Gallery displays art by LU graduates (15 photos)

The students began delivering their art for the exhibit on March 4.

THUNDER BAY – Lakehead University Juried and Honours Exhibitions are now on display at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery.

The galleries feature works by graduates from the 3 and 4-year art programs at Lakehead University and show how far the students have come.

“It looks fantastic and it was a struggle because a lot of the students are working from home in their bedrooms or little tight spaces and communicating through Zoom,” said Mavournen Trainor, Lakehead University professor.

“So it’s a huge effort and it just looks fantastic to finally see the work in person.”

The students featured in the exhibits were absolutely thrilled to have their work on display for the public.

“Really exciting, I know last year, it was online, and this year it’s in person which is really exciting. It’s different when you see a sculpture in person than when you see it in a photograph,” said Nathan Cross, a fourth-year graduating student.

“You don’t get the sense of size and scale or the effect of it fully. Having it in person really helps with the message of my work.”

For many graduating students, this is a chance for them to get their art out into the public eye before they make their way into the world of professional art.

“It’s absolutely amazing, it’s so nice to actually be able to show my work. And hopefully, I can get my master's so I need to get my pieces out there so I can grow as an artist,” said Katie Untinen, a fourth-year graduating student.

The exhibit will run from March 4 until April 3, for more information on times and entry fees, visit the Art Gallery’s website.
