THUNDER BAY — The competition is a couple months away, but the City of Thunder Bay is giving a heads-up to artists and groups interested in participating in February's snow sculpture contest.
It will take place on the waterfront as part of Family Day weekend in February.
The competition is in its 10th year and is open to entries from across Canada, but organizers are encouraging local applicants.
A change this year includes a separate application for community groups wishing to enter.
Professional artists and professional artist-led teams have participated in the past, but "we have not had a lot of uptake from community groups," says Louisa Costanzo, the city's cultural development and events supervisor.
Costanzo said the snow sculptures are always a big hit at the Family Day celebration.
The deadline for submissions is Jan. 12, 2022 at 12:00 noon.
More information and the full application package can be viewed here.
There is no suggested theme, so applicants are welcome to propose their own concepts.
Proposals should be in keeping with the spirit of the contest as a fun, family-friendly spectacle, and ensure public safety.
