THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay Courthouse is expected to reopen by mid-February, according to a spokesperson with the Ministry of the Attorney General.
The courthouse has been closed since a fire broke out in the main electrical room on the building’s seventh floor on Oct. 4, 2020. The fire caused water damage to part of the building.
“The Thunder Bay Courthouse at 125 Brodie St. N. remains closed while repairs are conducted,” Brian Gray, a spokesperson with the ministry said in an emailed statement.
“Significant progress is being made to return to normal operations and the ministry intends to reopen the courthouse in mid-February,” Gray adds.
In the interim, the Superior Court of Justice continues to operate out of a temporary space at the Courthouse Hotel on Camelot Street. The Ontario Court of Justice continues to operate at the Valhalla Inn.
Both courts continue to operate remotely.
Counter service is operational and is temporarily located at 189 River Road from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
