THUNDER BAY — For the fifth consecutive month, temperatures in the Thunder Bay region were above normal in November.

"We were certainly on the mild side," Environment Canada meteorologist Geoff Coulson said Monday.

The average temperature recorded at Thunder Bay Airport last month was 1.5 C, which he described as "notably warmer" than the long-term average of minus 2.1 degrees.

The average daytime high temperature in November was 5.9 C, well above the normal average daily high of 2.6 degrees.

Coulson said the other notable weather statistic last month was the 78.3 mm of rain that fell at the airport, sharply higher than the typical total of 55.6 mm.

But 61.9 mm fell in just one day, on Nov. 19.

Coulson said long-range forecast models show December is likely to see temperatures around the long-term average for the month, however there could be more snow than normal.

"It looks like a bit more of an active storm track, so we may see a little bit more in the way of snowfall than usual."
