THUNDER BAY — Officials at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre say to expect some changes to parking and building access this week as work continues on a new cardiovascular surgery program space.
In a media release issued Monday afternoon, the hospital said the main entrance will be closed until Sunday March 30 to accommodate the current phase of work. It had warned of the impending work at the beginning of the month.
“We kindly ask that all patients and families plan ahead and allow extra time for parking,” the hospital’s release said.
Most patients can use the entrance to the renal unit, which is next to the shuttered main entrance. Despite the presence of nearby construction, the hospital said, the renal doors will be accessible. Cancer care patients can use the westernmost hospital entrance.
The hospital said construction fencing is in place.
As for parking, the health sciences centre said its bear (B1) parking lot will remain closed, and officials directed people to using the moose (B2) and eagle (A1) visitor lots in its place. The moose (B2) lot can also be used when drop-off and pickup zones are busy.
Furthermore, the hospital said that its coyote (C2), squirrel (C1) and deer (D) lots are only for patients using the emergency department and labour and delivery department as other areas of the hospital are not accessible through those entrances.
“We know that with construction comes inconvenience, and we appreciate your understanding and patience as we move forward with this important project bringing cardiovascular surgery to Northwestern Ontario, and closer to home for patients and families,” the hospital release said.
“We will continue to provide updates as construction progresses.”
The hospital said that, as construction continues, access to parking will continue to fluctuate and to monitor its website and social media.
