THUNDER BAY — A city lawyer has been appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Justice in Thunder Bay.

Stephen J. Wojciechowski is a graduate of Lakehead University and Queen's University, where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1988.

He was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 1990, and started as an associate with Buset & Eryou, now known as Buset LLP, in a practice that included real estate, wills, labour law and family law.

In 1996, he joined David Eryou and formed ERYOU Barristers where he has focused on insurance defence litigation.

Justice Wojciechowski served institutions throughout Northwestern Ontario, defending claims involving hospital negligence, traffic accidents, wrongful dismissals, human rights applications and municipal liability claims.

He has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario, as well as the Supreme Court of Canada.

For the past 25 years he has supported, organized and run continuing legal education programs, and since its opening in 2013 he has taught at the Bora Laskin Law school on the topic of civil practice.

Justice Wojciechowski's appointment was announced Monday by federal justice minister Arif Virani.
