Thunder Bay man arrested after assault with a weapon near Dryden

The 27-year-old eluded police for several hours before being arrested.

DRYDEN, Ont. — OPP have laid multiple charges against a Thunder Bay man who tried to evade arrest after an incident Monday near Dryden.

Officers responded at about 1 p.m. to a report of an assault with a weapon in Zealand Township, east of town.

The suspect fled before police arrived, but was spotted shortly after driving a vehicle west of Dryden.

He sped away when officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, then fled on foot after his vehicle was later located in Machin Township.

About three and a half hours after the initial call to police, the suspect was arrested with the assistance of the OPP Emergency Response Team, canine unit and Aviation Services officers.

The 27-year-old is charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, assault with a weapon, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and taking a motor vehicle without consent.

OPP are not releasing his name in order to protect the identity of the victim.

The man was ordered held in custody pending an appearance in court Tuesday.
