OTTAWA — Federal Justice Minister Judy Wilson-Raybould has appointed a former Thunder Bay woman to the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario.
E. Llana Nakonechny, a partner at the all-woman firm of Dickson Appell in Toronto, was born and raised in the city, where her parents, family and friends still reside.
She received her B.F.A. in drama and voice from Brock University, her LL.B. from the University of Ottawa, and her LL.M. in international protection of human rights from the University of Essex in the U.K.
Nakonechny was called to the Ontario bar in 1988, and practised in the areas of family and estate law at both trial and appellate courts until her appointment to the bench.
She has been an instructor in family law at the bar admission course, has taught law clerks at the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario and Ryerson University, and has been a part-time professor at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Common Law.
Justice Nakonechny will work at the Superior Court of Justice in Toronto.
