Thunder Bay pair face weapons, car theft charges in Cambridge

Police allege the accused were in possession of a sawed-off shotgun and equipment used to program vehicles keys.

WATERLOO, Ont. – A pair of Thunder Bay residents are facing multiple charges after an arrest related to a stolen vehicle in Cambridge, Ont.

According to Waterloo Region Police, officers were on a proactive patrol on Hespeler Road at about 9:30 a.m. on Christmas Eve when they located an unoccupied 2023 Toyota Tundra that had been reported stolen in Toronto in a reprogramming theft.

In the course of their subsequent investigation, police seized suspected fentanyl, hydromorphone and methamphetamine. Police also recovered a sawed-off shotgun, three edged weapons, ammunition, multiple cellphones and re-programmable keys.

A 43-year old male and a 36-year-old female, both from Thunder Bay, were charged with four counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon, five counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, utter forged document an possession of stolen property.

The male was also charged with two counts of possession of a device for the purpose of committing theft and possession of a firearm or weapon, contrary to a prohibition order.

Both accused where held in police custody for a bail hearing.

Police did not provide the names of the accused.
