THUNDER BAY — In an effort to help the public understand what's entailed in keeping the community safe, the Thunder Bay Police Service is publishing a series of online articles revealing what goes on behind the scenes during patrols.

Chris Adams, the director of Communications and Technology for the TBPS, says the articles will show citizens what patrol officers do and experience "through their eyes."

TBPS media coordinator Scott Paradis is the author.

Adams said Paradis is going on ridealongs with uniform patrol officers in their vehicles to gather information from the frontline of policing and "to try to personalize what policing is all about."

He said the initiative is "all about transparency."

Adams said the articles will show the human side of the job in ways that can't be done through an ordinary media release.

"It's going in-depth a bit more, it's finding those interesting aspects of officers' shifts that maybe get neglected."

He said the TBPS hopes the series also give the public a better sense of what's going on in the city,

According to Adams, the project was developed because the Uniform Patrol Branch felt there was a need to provide more information to citizens about what happens during an officer's shift.

The first weekly article, What's in a Call, was published Monday.

There will be three more installments in November, and four in January.
