THUNDER BAY — All locations of the Thunder Bay Public Library will be closed on Sept. 19.

That's the day of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth ll.

Prime Minister Trudeau has declared a federal holiday for government employees.

Federally-regulated industries such as banks and airlines are not required to recognize the holiday but have the option of doing so.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has not followed suit but says the province will mark Sept. 19 as a Day of Mourning in lieu of a holiday.

A spokesperson for the Thunder Bay Public Library says the library is contractually obligated to grant a holiday to its unionized staff whenever a federal or provincial holiday is declared.

Canada’s banks will stay open next Monday.

The Canadian Bankers Association says banks will be open for normal business, with regular hours.

But they will  observe a moment of silence to honour the Queen.

“By keeping the banking system open, banks ensure the continuous functioning of payroll for workers, scheduled bill payments, child support, and mortgage closings,” the CBA said in a statement.
