THUNDER BAY — The City of Thunder Bay was recognized as the fifth-ranked mid-sized city on Canada's Culture Days 2024 Top Participating Communities List.
This national acknowledgement placed Thunder Bay firmly on the map as a cultural hub.
“Being recognized on the Top Participating Communities List affirms Thunder Bay’s strong commitment to supporting arts, culture and heritage,” said Kelly Robertson, the City's commissioner of Community Services.
“This achievement reflects the incredible collaboration between our City staff, community partners, local artists, art professionals, historians and cultural experts. It is a testament to the passion and creativity that make Thunder Bay such a vibrant and inclusive community.”
The City’s Recreation and Culture Division was described as a driving force behind championing these local Culture Days celebrations.
The division was responsible for organizing events, encouraging community organizations' participation, collaborating with local partners and promoting diverse cultural public offerings.
Thunder Bay hosted more than 80 Culture Days events in 2024.
Culture Days Ontario further showcased the city as a provincial festival hub, allowing it to host arts and cultural programs like the local Culture Days launch event and Arts and Culture Under the Lights.
As a provincial hub, it also held several featured events, not limited to, Celebrating Indigenous Culture and Honouring Truth and Reconciliation with Anishnawbe Mushkiki, All the DAZE Productions workshops and Community Arts and Heritage Education Program's Art of the Mushroom.
Robertson extended heartfelt gratitude to all participants, organizers, volunteers and partners whose hard work and creativity made this achievement possible.
