THUNDER BAY – Lorna Bottos got a pleasant surprise on Friday.

The Thunder Bay resident found out that she was winner of $1,370,372 from September’s Thunder Bay 50/50 draw.

“I was hoping the 50/50 would change my life one day,” Bottos said during a phone conversation with Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation president and CEO Glenn Craig.

“I don’t even know what to say. I’m quitting my second job.”

Bottos works for OSAP helping students with financial aid achieve their goals and does evening shifts at the Metro deli.

With her winnings, Bottos said she plans to travel to either Europe or the United States.

Bottos is the 13th straight millionaire that has come from the monthly lottery draw.

The foundation has announced a number of changes for their October draw schedule, which included a $20,000 draw on Oct. 4.

The grand prize draw will be held on Friday, Nov. 1 as part of their Halloween promotions.

Tickets can be purchased online at or at the 50/50 Store in Intercity Shopping Centre.
