THUNDER BAY – It was a day to celebrate as Annette Porter-Conrod along with friends and family got together for her 100th birthday on Saturday.
Porter-Conrod will officially turn 100 years old on Monday.
Deb Ritson, Porter-Conrod's daughter said it’s interesting to think about all the changes her mother has been through.
“My mom grew up through the war and she's gone through so many changes in her lifetime.
“Her and my dad were from Manitoba. They met when my dad was in the army and they ended up moving to Thunder Bay because my dad wanted to come here to play hockey.”
Deb said simple things make her mother happy.
“She enjoys sitting out in the yard watching the birds and squirrels. She likes to watch the squirrels run on the hydro lines.”
Derek Ritson, Deb’s husband, said they gathered friends, family and neighbourhood friends to celebrate the day.
“100 years is pretty amazing.
“It's not too many people you get to know at 100 years old and tell all the stories and listen to them,” he said.
Porter-Conrod told TBnewswatch her advice to the younger generation is simply to ‘be kind’ to one another.
