FORT FRANCES  — Ontario Provincial Police have identified a Thunder Bay resident as the victim of a fatal collision on Highway 11 on Tuesday afternoon.

The 20-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The single-vehicle collision involving an SUV happened around 2:30 pm where the highway passes Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation, about 42 kilometres east of Fort Frances.

In addition to OPP, the Halkirk Township Fire Protection Team and Rainy River District Emergency Medical Services responded to the incident.

Highway 11 was closed for about five hours until police cleared the scene.

Police said in a news release Wednesday morning that they are continuing their investigation into the collision.
