THUNDER BAY - A festive local draw had an appropriately named winner this year.

Cindy Lou Luhtala of Thunder Bay took home $17,305 after she was announced as the winner in this year’s sold-out Intercity Shopping Centre 50/50 Cash Draw.

Altogether, 10,000 tickets were sold. The winner could not be reached by phone following the contest draw.

Funds from this year’s draw will support the Northern Cardiac Fund to provide better cardiac care to residents of the Thunder Bay community.

"The funds raised here buy medical equipment for the cardiac catherization lab, and our cardiac unit," said Terri Hrkac, senior director of The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation. "Unfortunately, Thunder Bay and our region has one of the highest rates of cardiac disease, and vascular disease in all of Ontario. It's so important we're always updating our equipment and providing our best services."

This was the 19th year of the cash draw. Altogether, the draw has raised $214,377.

"The community loves it," Hrkac said. "How fantastic is it that we get to give the winner that extra cash right before Christmas."

The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation and Intercity Shopping Centre wish to thank all who took time to purchase tickets this year, and to thank the multiple volunteers who made this draw possible once again.
