Thunder Bay Transit is doing its part to uphold the city's Clean, Green, and Beautiful policy by purchasing three new buses to replace outdated vehicles.

The 2011 model buses come with a price tag of about $400,000 each, and have a number of new features.

Transit spokesperson Jon Hendel said all lights on the new buses are LED, to reduce electric consumption.

They also use a higher percentage of bio-diesel, have an electric cooling system, and are easier to clean inside.

Hendel added that overall, the new vehicles are much better for the environment.
The total $1.2 million price tag was included in last year's city budget.

Hendel said Thunder Bay Transit regularly has a fleet of 49 buses, and older models are replaced on an annual basis to reduce maintenance costs.
