THUNDER BAY – Pop culture will be at its peak in the city in a little more than seven month’s time.
Thundercon, which drew more than 3,000 fans in 2024, is returning once again this year to the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition grounds, slated for the weekend of Sept. 20 and Sept. 21.
It’s a big year, said the event’s recently re-elected chair, Amanda Capar, announcing the Wibbly-Wobbly-Timey-Wimey 10th Birthday celebration in a release issued on Monday.
“We’re excited for our birthday this year,” Capar says of the upcoming event which held its first event in 2015.
”We have some great guests and new programming along with a few returning favourites that I believe will make this year our best yet.”
Among the annual visitors to Thundercon each year is Klingon Assault Group member Peter Hutchison, who has been joined by fellow Klingons from the Sudbury and Timmins areas since 2017.
It’s well worth the drive, he said.
“It’s a long trek across Northern Ontario to get our motley crew of aliens there in one piece, but it’s always worth it.”
Hutchison, who along with his crew, raised $366 at Thundercon 2024 for ALS Canada bringing the yearly total to over $3,300.
“The Thundercon community always has adventures in store for us, and we’ve come to think of Thunder Bay as our second home.”
The guest list of speakers is still in the works, organizers said, with details expected in the coming months.
