MONTREAL – The Lakehead Thunderwolves penultimate road trip did not go as planned.

The McGill Redbirds raced out to a 3-0 lead after the first period on Saturday, added a fourth straight goal in the second and went on to defeat the Thunderwolves at home by a 4-2 score.

Charles Boutin, Brandon Frattaroli and Xavier Fortin staked the Redbirds to a three-goal lead, scoring goals 2:43 apart. Frattaroli, a fourth-year senior, added his second of the night, and 19th of the season, midway through the middle stanza.

Justin Paul finally solved McGill goaltender Alexis Shank, with 4:10 to go in the second. Olivier Pouliot added his 12th of 2024-25 at 5:28 of the third.

Shank made 31 saves to earn the win for the Redbirds. Carson Cherepak was chased after McGill’s third goal of the night, stopping just eight of 11 shots he faced. Christian Cicigoi took over and was good on 31 of 32 shots the rest of the way.

Lakehead wraps up regular season play next weekend on the road against Western. The Thunderwolves (14-10-2) are currently tied for third in the OUA West with Windsor with 30 points.
