SAULT STE. MARIE – A weekend road trip didn’t go as planned for the Lakehead Thunderwolves women’s basketball team.

Lakehead (4-10) dropped a 49-45 decision to the one-win Algoma Thunderbirds on Sunday afternoon, unable to carry a halftime lead to victory.

The Thunderbirds (2-10) outscored LU 14-8 in the third quarter to take a 39-35 advantage and went on to the four-point win.

Kelly-Ann Coulombe topped all Thunderwolves players with 11 points, adding 10 rebounds for the double-double. Paula Lopez and Ally Burke, who hit just one of 13 shots from the field, had 10 points apiece for LU.

Kaila Fong had 13 for Algoma and Thunder Bay’s Allison Read finished with eight points and three rebounds.
