THUNDER BAY – Ally Burke isn’t a one-woman team, but the Lakehead Thunderwolves would be in pretty deep trouble without the Timmins star.

Burke put up 21 points on Saturday night to lead LU to a 66-47 home-court win over the visiting Nipissing Lakers, pulling the T-Wolves into 13th place in the OUA standings, one spot out of a playoff berth.

Paula Lopez had a dozen points, to go with four assists and three rebounds, and Eva Guilera came off the bench and also hit double-digits, putting up 10 points for Lakehead, who trailed 14-13 after one, but led 28-22 by the time halftime rolled around.

Megan McCarter led Nipissing with 13 points, adding a dozen boards for the double-double.

Lakehead outscored the Lakers 22-10 in the fourth to put the game away.

The Thunderwolves head to Guelph and Algoma next weekend. Their next home game is Jan. 26, when the Brock Badgers head to Thunder Bay for a pair.
