WINDSOR, Ont. – The Lakehead Thunderwolves had to settle for a split.

The host Windsor Lancers erupted for three goals in the first period on Saturday night, all the offense they would need to down the visiting Thunderwolves 3-1, both teams taking a game in the two-game set.

Johnny Ulicny and Tyler Toews scored 41 seconds apart in the opening period to break open a 1-0 contest.

Josh Van Unen had Lakehead’s only goal of the night, scoring at 7:57 of the third to end Nathan Torchia’s shutout bid.

Christian Cicigoi took the loss in net for the Thunderwolves, giving up three goals on 37 shots.

The T-Wolves, outshot 19-5 in the first, went 0-for-5 on the power play and dropped to 8-5-1 with the loss, the Lancers improving to 8-6-0.

Lakehead wraps up the pre-Christmas portion of its schedule next Friday on the road against Ontario Tech. Their next regular season home game is Jan. 4 against the York Lions.
