HAMILTON – Any hope the Lakehead Thunderwolves women’s basketball team had of making the OUA playoffs came to a crashing halt on Friday night.

The Wolves, who needed to win both games on the road this weekend against the McMaster Marauders, plus some help by the other three teams chasing the final playoff spot, instead fell 89-46.

Combined with Laurentian’s 70-46 win over Algoma on Wednesday night, it ended the T-Wolves slim chance to advance.

Laurentian (6-15) owns the tiebreaker over Lakehead (5-16) and the best the Thunderwolves can do is tie the Voyageurs for 12th, with one game remaining in the regular season.

Kirpa Brar led Lakehead with 17 points, but no other starter hit double digits and the bench only managed 10 points as a unit.

Jenna Button had 21 to lead all scorers, adding nine rebounds on the night.

The two teams will wrap up their respective regular season schedules on Saturday, tipping off at 6 p.m. at the Burridge Gymnasium.
