THUNDER BAY – Lucie Clifford is the winner of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation’s January 50/50 draw, taking home more than $1.8 million.

Clifford, who lives in Timmins, had just finished teaching for the day when she received the coveted phone call from foundation president and CEO Glenn Craig on Friday.

“Oh my gosh, I don’t even know what to say. I’m speechless, and that doesn’t happen very often,” said Clifford when speaking to Craig. “I’ve been buying tickets since the very beginning to help out in any way I can. Now, this is really helping me out.”

Clifford retired from teaching eight years ago and is a grandmother. She still fills in as a supply teacher.

With January’s winner selected, the February 50/50 is now open.

This month features $85,000 in early bird prizes with $50,000 of that money to be won in the first week of February.

A Valentine’s Day blitz will also see 20 early bird prizes of $1,000 each. And there will be a $10,000 early bird prize awarded on Feb. 26.

The grand prize will be drawn on Feb. 28.
