NORTHWEST NARWHALS

Three hundred eighteen athletes from 30 swim clubs from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Ontario participated in the ManSask Winter Provincial Championships at the PanAm Pool in Winnipeg, MB from March 17 – 21, 2022.
Northwest Narwhals local swim club represented Thunder Bay with distinction and compiled 80 percent personal best times and 35 swims advanced to the finals. The “small but mighty” swim club finished 6th out of 30 teams and 4th on the women’s side. Extremely impressive considering only six swimmers participated in the prestigious meet. The Narwhals compiled 14 gold, five silver, and three bronze medals not to mention the two gold medals won in the girls 12 and under Girls relays.
Medal winners included, Elly Bodnar, Paige Brown, Katherine Warkentin, Sophie Venasky and Hayden Nisula.
Swimmers achieved 100 percent personal best times include: Maddox Holmes, Sophie Venasky and Elly Bodnar. All six athletes advanced to multiple finals.
Warkentin, Brown and Bodnar qualified for Ontario Junior Championships as well as Ontario Festival Championships.
Nisula, Venasky, Warkentin, and Bodnar also powered the 12 and under girl’s relay team to win gold in both races.
Narwhals also provided three of four swimmers to represent Ontario clubs in the battle of the three provinces in the provincial relay. Bodnar, Venasky and Warkentin were successful in achieving gold to become Provincial Champions of the 12 and under category.
Next stop for the Narwhals is the Spring Forward Weekend Invitational in April at the Toronto PanAm Sports Center.
