Thunder Bay's tourism officials are reaching out to what they call a promising demographic.

Tourism Manager Paul Pepe says Ride Lake Superior continues to gain ground, attracting motorcycle enthusiasts to our region.

He said many of these motor cycle travelers are mature and have healthy disposable incomes, which makes them attractive tourists for this area.

“It is an ideal demographic,” he said. “It is a more mature market, they are more affluent and more educated, more disposable income and they like to travel on a more linear route.

“And here we are on the shores of the world’s greatest lake with this epic 2,000-kilometre ribbon of highway around it with lots to see and do. It is something that does have growing appeal.”

Pepe added that the city’s tourism department has partnered with tourism officials in Sault Ste. Marie, and are also getting interest from American tourism officials in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan.
