Toys for Tots Motorcycle Ride helps bring Christmas joy to children

The toys will be distributed to children in Thunder Bay during this Christmas season through Salvation Army programs

THUNDER BAY – Over 70 bikes made their way through town on Saturday to deliver tons of toys to the Salvation Army’s Journey to Life Centre.

The 40th Anniversary Toys for Tots Ride in support of The Salvation Army Christmas Toy Campaign is in its 40th year and Salvation Army Journey to Life Centre Executive Director, Gary Ferguson said that it was exciting to see the amount of support this year.

“It's fantastic. You know, the biker community in Thunder Bay has always been supportive of this, a very generous group of people,” he said. “And as you can see from the toys that they've donated, there's going to be a lot of happy faces at Christmas this year.”

The Bikes hauled stuffed animals, trucks, dolls, and other toys from Thunder Bay Harley-Davidson, and travelled through the city to The Salvation Army’s new Journey to Life Centre on Cumberland St.

The toys will be distributed to children in Thunder Bay during this Christmas season through Salvation Army programs and Ferguson said that these toys will make Christmas morning a joyous time for the children who receive them and relieve a great burden for their parents.

“It's all part of many of the programs that we offer. There are other programs in the community that do offer toys for the children, and anything we can do to help is very important too,” he said.

“So the toys will be given out through our centre. They'll be given on our soup van and some of our residents can actually use these toys to give to their family members.”

For those who could not attend the event but still wish to help out, financial donations are also accepted and can be dropped off at The Salvation Army Journey to Life Centre.
