THUNDER BAY -- City council is losing another senior manager as treasurer Carol Pollard is moving on at the end of February.

Pollard, who's been a manager with the city since 2000 and is currently general manager of corporate services and long-term care along with being the city's chief financial officer, said Friday she was offered another opportunity in the public sector but couldn't specify saying it will be announced shortly.

"I was really posed with a very exciting opportunity," she said.

Pollard becomes the fourth senior manager to have left or retired from the city in the past year. While next year's budget is being finalized right now, she won't be there during deliberations. Acting city manager Norm Gale said Pollard leaves a solid team in place to make sure the budget process is on track.

"With Carol's departure it makes it a little more difficult but there are people working on the budget now," he said.

Budget chair Coun. Frank Pullia said the city has known for years that it will be losing 20 to 30 managers due to retirement and there is a succession plan in place.

"I'm comfortable in the knowledge that we have good staff that will help join the transition," he said.

"We're prepared."

Pollard started her career as chief accountant for her hometown of Fort Frances in 1978. She was town treasurer from 1981 until joining Thunder Bay in 2000. She said she's most proud of the financial planning and various strategies she was able to put in place for the city over the years.

"It's been very exciting, very interesting. A job that I loved going to everyday," she said.

"That's going to be the most difficult part is leaving the folks that you work with."

Gale said decisions will be made in the new year on Pollard's replacement.
