THUNDER BAY – The trial of a man accused of murder in relation to a reported stabbing in October 2021 began last week.
Khalid Ali Mohamed, 28, of Toronto, is facing charges of second-degree murder and obstructing a peace officer in the death of Steven Perry Burns, 36 , of Thunder Bay.
A trial began last week at the Thunder Bay Courthouse and is set to resume on Tuesday. Court did not sit this week due to scheduling issues.
The judge-alone trial is expected to carry on for up to another two weeks once it resumes.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers were initially dispatched to a reported stabbing in the 200 block of Park Avenue around 9:35 p.m. on Oct. 17, 2021.
Burns was found with serious injuries and taken to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for treatment.
He was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Police identified a suspect shortly after arriving on scene and that suspect was located and arrested on Cumberland Street the evening of Oct. 17, 2021.
At the time of his arrest, Mohamed allegedly tried to provide police with a false identity.
None of the allegations against the accused have been proven in court.
