THUNDER BAY — A city councillor charged with assault will have his day in court by month’s end.
Coun. Trevor Giertuga had disclosed to council last November he had been charged following an altercation with one of his brothers in June 2024.
On Friday, a trial date of April 30 was confirmed at the Thunder Bay Courthouse.
The trial is expected to take three hours and will be held in-person.
When Giertuga made his first court appearance in late November, he was self-represented.
Defence lawyer Richard Garrett now represents the councillor.
Giertuga denied the allegations to city council when he went public with the assault charge.
"I'll have my day in court where the entire circumstances will come out. I believe I'll be vindicated, but I just want the public to know," he told council.
None of the allegations against Giertuga have been proven in court.
