THUNDER BAY — Mother Nature is threatening to put a damper on Halloween activities in the Thunder Bay area.
Environment Canada predicts periods of snow for the city beginning Thursday afternoon, with some accumulation on the ground as the temperature drops later in the day.
"Snow will be falling as the kids are trick-or-treating," meteorologist Geoff Coulson said Wednesday.
"The ground has been relatively warm recently. Temperatures on Hallowe'en are likely still gonna be a little above freezing as the snow falls. So there will be some accumulation, a few centimetres potentially here and there."
The snow will arrive in a weather system moving to the south of Lake Superior.
The overnight low Thursday night will be - 7 C.
The Thunder Bay Police Service issued a statement advising drivers and pedestrians alike to exercise caution.
"Between the potential for slippery conditions on Thursday night, and the earlier onset of darkness, trick-or-treaters and motorists alike have a shared responsibility," police said.
"Those out trick-or-treating are urged to dress appropriately, and avoid costumes that could pose slipping or tripping hazards. Also, consider costumes with bright colours, or add reflecting strips."
