THUNDER BAY —  Trinity United Church and and local artists, crafters and quilters managed to raise $8,650 for Ukrainian relief efforts.

The proceeds of a recent fundraiser organized by the church have been turned over to the Ukrainian Credit Union in Thunder Bay for forwarding to Ukrainian charities.

The money will be used to purchase medical supplies for those wounded in the conflict with the Russia, and to support families adopting Ukrainian children orphaned during the war.

Carol Forneri, chair of the fundraiser, said the Trinity congregation was heartstricken about the devastating impact the conflict was having on people.

"And you know, it could be us. You go to bed one night and it's fine, and the next day your world has disappeared. So we thought we'd like to help out and better as a group than just one single person, and that's why we decided to do the sale."

Donations for the event were also obtained from local businesses.
