THUNDER BAY -- Paramedics rushed the driver of a dump truck to the hospital after his vehicle slid and flipped over along Highway 102 Thursday morning.
The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. at the bridge overlooking the Kaministiquia River just a few kilometres near the entrance to Silver Falls Road. Paramedics took the driver of the truck to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, but police at the scene weren't aware of the extent of the man's injuries.
Anoop Palia, a driver for Bison Transport, was driving behind the truck that lost control.
Having driven along that stretch of road for the past seven years, he said it’s a dangerous area because the bridge isn’t salted.
“It’s very difficult to stop a loaded truck,” Palia said.

Palia and many other motorists turned off their vehicles as they waited for a lane to be cleared. The lineup of cars, transport trucks and vans stretched all the way to the bridge to Strawberry Creek.
OPP Sgt. David Moscall said now that the loader had arrived they hoped to have a lane open to traffic soon.
“From our investigation so far there was an eastbound dump truck coming down the hill, lost control, hit the guardrail and flipped over,” Moscall said.
“I don’t know the cause at this time. The roads were fairly slippery this morning but I don’t know exactly until I speak to the driver.”
Police re-opened the highway in both directions shortly after noon.
The investigation is ongoing.
