Trucker charged with careless driving on Highway 11/17

Police laid multiple charges against the operator of a tractor-trailer after an incident on the Trans-Canada Highway east of Thunder Bay.

THUNDER BAY — A transport truck driver faces multiple charges after an incident this week on Highway 11/17 near Hurkett.

Ontario Provincial Police posted a photo on social media Tuesday, showing a tractor trailer overtaking a box truck towing a trailer with a van on it.

Police allege the operator of the transport truck executed the passing manoeuvre unsafely.

Officers from the Thunder Bay and Nipigon detachments teamed up to locate the driver, who was later charged with careless driving, driving to the left of centre on a curve, and failing to stop on the right for an emergency vehicle.

"There are an abundance of passing lanes along our highways. Please be patient and utilize them so we all can arrive at our destinations safely," the OPP post stated.
