Toronto commuters got a sneak peek at the Toronto Transit Commission’s new high-tech subway cars, which are being built at Thunder Bay’s Bombardier plant, Thursday.
Federal and provincial politicans, along with Toronto Mayor David Miller and TTC chair Adam Giambrone, attending the morning unveiling. The contract for the 234 subway cars was awarded to the local Bombardier plant in 2006 and the first six-train set was delivered to Toronto earlier this month.
The company also released a video that showed the subway production line at the local plant. The video included interviews with local workers who spoke about the impact the massive contract has on Thunder Bay.
The first 78 subway cars are to be delivered to the TTC and put in operation in late December.
The remaining 156 cars will be produced at the local plant over the next four years.
