The Thunder Bay police investigation included a review of a video chat call

THUNDER BAY — Police have laid charges against two male youths after recent incidents in which threats were allegedly made against students at Algonquin Public School.

In response to a complaint, a police school resource officer was able to review threats made via a video chat call on March 27.

Police also learned that an in-person confrontation took place on March 28 between two youth victims of the threats and two youth suspects at a nearby high school.

The victims and the suspects are all 13 years old.

TBnewswatch was told that a teacher was able to intervene during the confrontation to prevent potential escalation.

However, the next morning the victims allegedly received additional threats from the two suspects via social media.

One youth is charged with two counts of assault, two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, and mischief under $5,000.

A second youth is charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

Under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, neither boy can be identified.

Both accused were released from custody with conditions, and dates for their next appearance in court.
