Two arrested after police seize drugs and firearms

The street value of the seized drugs is estimated to be $470,000.

THUNDER BAY – Two people were arrested early Wednesday morning after a search warrant has resulted in a significant seizure of suspected cocaine and fentanyl, along with two loaded handguns.

Members of the Thunder Bay Police Service's Intelligence Unit, with assistance from the Emergency Task Unit and Ontario Provincial Police's Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, executed a search warrant at a Tupper Street residence.

Two male suspects were located within the residence. Both were arrested and taken into custody.

Officers seized nearly a kilogram each of suspected cocaine and fentanyl. The street value of the seized drugs is estimated to be $470,000.

Two loaded handguns were also seized from the residence, along with a quantity of cash that is believed to exceed $80,000.

A 22-year-old and a 17-year-old from Brampton are charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine), possession for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl), possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000, two counts of knowledge of possession of unauthorized firearm, two counts of careless storage of a firearm, two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts of possession of prohibited firearm, possession of prohibited device and possession of firearm obtained by crime.

The 22-year-old is also charged with breach of a release order.

The accused appeared in court Wednesday and have been remanded into custody with future appearance dates.
