THUNDER BAY – Police have arrested two people after a disturbance call and subsequent chase led to one of the accused being in possession of a handgun.

In a release issued on Tuesday morning, police said one of the accused attempted to strike an officer with a vehicle while attempting to leave the scene.

The incident took place just before 5 a.m. on Monday in the 100 block of Banning Street.

According to the release, police arrived on scene and spoke with the individuals present. One of the individuals tried to push their way past police and ran down the street. While being pursued, the accused allegedly attempted to draw a loaded handgun before being arrested.

Meanwhile another individual attempted to drive away in a vehicle, and allegedly operated the vehicle in a dangerous manner, nearly striking an officer.

The accused was located a short distance away, the driver asleep behind the wheel. The driver was not cooperative with police, but officers eventually managed to put them under arrest.
