NETMIZAAGGAMING NISHNAABEG – Two residents face numerous drug charges following a search in Netmizaaggaming Nishnaabeg, or Pic Mobert First Nation. The charges come as part of an investigation into methamphetamine trafficking in the community, said police.

The Anishinabek Police Service (APS) executed a search warrant on a Pic Mobert residence Thursday, with assistance from the OPP. Police seized methamphetamine, cannabis, alcohol, and cigarettes with a street value of around $12,600, they said, as well as an estimated $20,000 in Canadian currency.

A man, 64, and woman, 26 – both Pic Mobert residents – now face a slate of charges.

The woman is charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purposes of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000, possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling, and an unsafe weapons storage charge.

The man faces the same charges, as well as two additional charges of keeping liquor for sale and possession of tobacco for resale.

APS Sgt. Warren Bouchie expected the bust would at least temporarily disrupt the flow of methamphetamine into the community, saying it was a “fair amount” for a community of Pic Mobert’s size. Pic Mobert has an reserve population of 320, according to Statistics Canada’s most recent data.
