Two occupants of a transport truck suffered serious injuries after their rig crashed near Pays Plat Tuesday.

The 53-year-old passenger had to be extricated from the wreck. OPP officials say he and the 65-year-old driver, both from Manitoba, were airlifted to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

A recent blast of winter weather east of the city is being blamed for the crash.

Highway 17 between Terrace Bay and Marathon was closed Tuesday morning, due to transports getting stuck in the snow.
That closure was extended to Nipigon after the crashed near Pays Plat.
